The penile enlargement procedure is performed fully conscious in Dr. Robbins' office. There is no need for presurgical labs and testing as the procedure is performed using a combination of local and topical anesthesia resulting in minimal discomfort. The entire procedure can be performed in approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour. To perform the penile girth or shaft enlargement procedure, Dr. Robbins will insert microcannulas under the skin at the base of the penis and inject a hyaluronic acid dermal filler (Juvéderm) evenly under the skin resulting in a uniform distribution of the filler in a circumferential manner around the penile shaft. The advantage of a microcannula over a needle is that the blunt end of the microcannula results in less injury to the small blood vessels underneath the skin of the penis and therefore decreased bruising and swelling. Hyaluronic acid (Juvéderm) produces an excellent natural elastic feel in both the flaccid and erect states.
After completing the procedure, Dr. Robbins will wrap the penis in an elastic gauze to promote an even distribution of the hyaluronic acid dermal filler (Juviderm). Men can return to normal activities the same day, but sexual activity must be held ideally for 1-2 weeks. Heavy lifting and exercise as well as bath and swimming pools should be avoided for one week. Showering is permitted right away. It is not uncommon to experience mild swelling after the procedure initially after the procedure. Results are noticeable immediately after the procedure.
Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance that is already present in the skin that functions to keep the skin thick and hydrated. Hyaluronic acid fillers come in syringes and are a soft jelly like substance. The most commonly used and popular filler for penile shaft firth enlargement procedures is Juvéderm Voluma XC made by Allergan. Some individuals will notice a longer duration of volume enhancement after the material has completely dissolved likely related to microfibrosis around the hyaluronic acid filler particles.
