Traveling for a Himplant: A Complete Guide for Out-of-State Patients Coming to Miami

Published May 11, 2026 • By Dr. David Robbins

A significant percentage of Himplant patients at INTIMÉ Miami travel from outside Florida — from across the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Latin America, and beyond. The procedure is performed at a small number of authorized practices nationwide, and many men prefer to combine the procedure with a private, restorative travel experience rather than have it performed close to home. If you're considering coming to Miami for a Himplant, this guide walks through every stage of the process so you can plan with confidence.

Step 1: The Virtual Consultation

There is no need to fly to Miami for an initial consultation. Most out-of-state patients begin with a secure video consultation conducted directly with Dr. Robbins. This appointment typically lasts 30–45 minutes and covers:

Your goals and motivations. What you're hoping to achieve, your timeline, and how the procedure fits into your broader life.

Medical history. Previous surgeries (especially any penile or pelvic procedures), current medications, allergies, chronic conditions, and prior treatments related to sexual or urological health.

Preliminary candidacy assessment. Dr. Robbins discusses whether the Himplant is appropriate for you based on the information available. For some patients, an alternative such as non-surgical HA filler-based enhancement may be a better fit.

Procedure overview. What the surgery involves, what results to expect, recovery timeline, costs, and travel planning considerations.

Your questions. Time is reserved for any concerns you want to raise.

The virtual consultation is conducted on a HIPAA-compliant platform with privacy protections in place. You receive a written summary afterward.

Step 2: In-Person Consultation and Surgery Day

If the virtual consultation confirms you are a likely candidate and you decide to move forward, the next step is an in-person visit. Two scheduling models are common for out-of-state patients:

Two-trip model: An in-person consultation and physical exam on one trip, followed by a return trip several weeks later for the surgery. This is preferred when patients want to meet the team in person, tour the surgical facility, and have additional time for reflection before committing to the procedure.

Combined-trip model: The in-person consultation, physical exam, and surgery are performed on the same trip — typically with the consultation/exam on day 1 and surgery on day 2 or 3. This is the most common option for patients flying in from a long distance, since it minimizes total travel time.

Either approach works. Dr. Robbins will recommend the option that best fits your circumstances during the virtual consultation.

Step 3: Planning Your Travel Window

For the surgery trip itself, plan to be in the Miami area for at least 5–7 days. The general timeline is:

Day 1 (arrival): Travel to Miami. Pre-operative consultation and final physical exam.

Day 2 (surgery day): The Himplant procedure is performed at New Face Aesthetics & Medical Center, a fully accredited outpatient surgery center. Generally, placement is completed in a single surgical session lasting approximately 45–90 minutes. You return to your hotel later that day with a companion.

Days 3–5 (early recovery): Rest, light activity around your accommodation, follow your post-operative instructions. Most patients are comfortable enough to walk around, eat normally, and conduct routine activities.

Day 5–7 (post-op follow-up): A scheduled in-person follow-up appointment with Dr. Robbins, typically 5–7 days after surgery, to assess healing and clear you for travel home.

Day 7+ (travel home): Most patients are cleared to fly home around day 5–7. Air travel is generally well-tolerated by this point, though loose-fitting clothing is recommended.

Step 4: Where to Stay

North Miami and the surrounding areas offer a range of accommodation options. Some considerations:

Proximity to the surgical facility. The surgery center is at 14432 Biscayne Boulevard, North Miami Beach. Hotels in North Miami Beach, Aventura, Bal Harbour, and Sunny Isles Beach are all within a 10–15 minute drive.

Privacy and discretion. Boutique hotels often offer more discreet check-in and stay experiences than larger resort properties.

Recovery comfort. A room with a comfortable bed, room service, in-room dining options, and a quiet environment matters more than amenities like beach access during the early recovery window. Many patients prefer suite-style accommodations to allow more room to move and rest.

Companion accommodation. If a partner, family member, or friend is accompanying you (recommended for the first 24–48 hours), make sure your accommodation has space for them.

Our patient care team can provide specific accommodation recommendations during the consultation process based on your budget and preferences.

Step 5: Recovery After You Return Home

Full recovery from a Himplant procedure averages 4–6 weeks. Most of this time is spent at home, not in Miami. Key considerations for the home-recovery period:

Light activity only for the first 4–6 weeks. No vigorous exercise, no sexual activity, no heavy lifting. Walking, normal work tasks, and routine daily activity are fine.

Loose clothing. Compression dressings are typically removed within the first week, but loose-fitting underwear and pants help during the swelling and healing phase.

Virtual follow-ups. Subsequent post-operative check-ins can be conducted via secure video, so you don't need to return to Miami for routine follow-up.

Coordination with your local physician (optional). With your written authorization, Dr. Robbins's office can share post-operative documentation with your home-area primary care or urology provider for any local follow-up support.

Return for in-person assessment at 3 months. Some patients choose to return to Miami for an in-person follow-up at the 3-month mark to review final results, though this is optional and depends on individual circumstances.

Cost Considerations for Travel

When budgeting for a Himplant procedure as an out-of-state patient, plan for:

The procedure itself. Specific pricing is provided during the consultation and depends on your individual situation.

Round-trip airfare. Miami International Airport (MIA) and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International (FLL) both serve the area.

5–7 nights of accommodation. Plan for the higher end of the cost range — recovery comfort matters more than saving on a budget hotel.

Ground transportation. Rental car or rideshare for the duration of your stay.

Meals. Most patients prefer room service or simple takeout during early recovery rather than restaurant dining.

Companion costs (if applicable). If someone is traveling with you, their costs add to the total.

Time off work. Plan for at least one week of complete time off, plus another week of limited activity at home before returning to a desk job. Physically demanding work may require 4–6 weeks off depending on the role.

Financing options are available for the procedure cost itself, which can help spread the investment over time.

Why Patients Travel for This Procedure

Several factors motivate U.S. patients to travel for a Himplant:

Specialist availability. The Himplant is performed by a limited number of authorized urologists in the United States. Many men do not have a qualified provider in their immediate area.

Privacy. Some patients prefer to have the procedure performed away from their home community, where the consultation, recovery, and return are entirely private.

Trained-by-the-inventor expertise. Dr. Robbins completed his Himplant training directly with Dr. James Elist, the device's inventor, and is one of a select number of authorized U.S. providers.

Combination with restorative time. Miami offers a comfortable post-procedure environment for recovery, with year-round mild weather and accommodation options across the price spectrum.
